Ocean Beach has been like this since the 50's. I remember watching the surfers, then going out to Playland at the Beach, riding the rides then eating at The Hot House or get a pie from the Pie Shop, then walking up to the Cliff House and Sutro's. Not the same now. Just Ocean Beach and the surfers and now condos

Hi John- an update on these houses: they are going to start construction again soon. It will be a family operation this time around too :-) They will be shipping in pre-cut lumber, etc, so the construction noise should be very minimal. Thank you again for documenting this <3

not a very good representation of this spot...Usually way better but also way too crowded.

Back in the day if Ulu was this small no one would even bother. You would just wait a few hours and hit it when the swell started to hit. Seems these days if it is small it is a case of "gumbies are go'" . I must say the average standard of surfing at Ulu seems to have dropped to standards we used to see only at Kuta Beach board rentals. I'm heading back this year after a 20 year absence, after seeing some of the latest video postings of all the top breaks I am prepared to be horrified! Can only hope it is well overhead to keep the numpties out of the water.
